-Bruce McCall is a regular New Yorker contributor. Usually pretty
funny, if you like that kind of thing (though I haven't seen the cover
in question yet). A gallery of his stuff is online:

He did a great piece a few years back called 'Hummer Style", a
catalogue of items based on the premise of designing everyday objects
like the Hummer is designed, i.e. a gigantic wristwatch that weighs 40
pounds, keeps you from lifting your arm and keeps terrible time, but
has that Hummer 'prestige', and so on.
-Many magazines (& comics) go to print with a publish date that is a
week or so ahead of when the publication usually hits the stands. This
is a long-standing practice but I don't know where it comes from. -JW
